Program Description

Applicants are from the global South (Asia, Africa, Latin America), post-Soviet countries, and Eastern and Southeastern European (EU) countries. Students from any subject area are eligible to apply as long as they demonstrate excellent school or academic results, wish to study in Germany, are committed to the values ​​of social democracy, and make a living from it. Scholarships are awarded to high-performing students and include a comprehensive seminar program to help improve a candidate’s social and academic skills. The personal support of on-site liaison instructors is another benefit of sponsorship. Up to 40 students receive FES sponsorship each year. They pay 861 euros a month and pay for health insurance. Students with children receive a family allowance of €276. Scholarships do not have to be repaid.

Requirements :

  • Outstanding school or academic performance (if required: first-level proof of academic achievement)
  • Social and political participation and commitment to social democratic values
  • Responsible, motivated, and reliable individuals willing to participate in the Foundation’s network
  • Sufficient knowledge of German, although courses are taught in English
